The new Viper 8K is replacing its predecessor, the Viper, at the same asking price, USD79. While it looks the same on the outside, several technological upgrades on the inside make it one of the best mice in the world, according to Razer. First off, Razer now includes the Focus Plus 20,000DPI sensor, along with the latest generation of optical switches that have a more tactile click feel. The newly revised Viper can achieve the fastest polling rate of any mouse currently available: up to 8,000Hz (hence its name), far higher than the industry standard of 1,000Hz. This means that the mouse sends the computer 8,000 pings per second. That’s a lot… but to take full advantage of it, your computer has to be up to it. Razer recommends PCs with at least an Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, an Nvidia GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 or better graphics processor, and a high refresh-rate monitor at 144Hz or over. Will the Viper 8K turn you into a better gamer? The marketing message says it will, but early testers say they haven’t really noticed a difference in terms of fluidity.

The Verge, Cameron Faulkner, “Razer’s new Viper 8K promises the fastest performance of any gaming mouse.”
