Weekly Recap: Sunspring, Picasso Odyssey, George Hotz, FarmBot, etc.

June 10, 2016.

dadada

Dadada

“dadada”: This was Mark Zuckerberg’s password for several different services, including Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn. Some genius tried reusing Zuckerberg’s password as discovered in the Great 2012 LinkedIn Hack. Tada: the Facebook boss’s Twitter and Pinterest accounts were hacked last Sunday. It bears repeating: to avoid looking like a Zuckerberg sucker, do not use such simple passwords as “dadada”. And especially don’t use the same password for all your accounts.

Ars Technica, “Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter, Pinterest accounts compromised.”

Sunspring

Sunspring, Thomas Middleditch

Sunspring is a sci-fi short whose storyline was written by Benjamin, a neural network (Long Short Term Memory, LSTM). It stars Thomas Middleditch, aka Richard Hendricks, CEO of Pied Piper. Pretty surreal…

Ars Technica, “Movie written by algorithm turns out to be hilarious and intense.”

2001: A Picasso Odyssey

And while we’re on the subject of artificially-produced artistic creations, Bhautik Joshi mashed Picasso’s cubist style and the better-known scenes of the film 2001, A Space Odyssey, by Stanley Kubrick.

Gizmodo Sploid, “2001: A Space Odyssey is even crazier after running it through Google’s Neural Network.”

George Hotz

The Verge magazine interviewed George Hotz, the developer of a solution to convert any car to a driverless vehicle for under $1000.

The Verge, “On the road with George Hotz’s $1,000 self-driving car kit.”

FarmBot

Tending a garden is tiring, dirty work, and it requires constant attention. Enter FarmBot, a gardening robot that plants, waters, and yes, weeds.

Arduino Blog, “FarmBot is an open-source CNC farming machine.”
