Sure, Doom was ported to watchOS years ago. As a matter of fact, are there still any electronic devices whose processor and display can’t execute it? But who ever thought Quake would get there! This successful FPS that came out in 1996 has a real-time 3D rendering engine that is technically much more involved. This didn’t stop Czech programmer Tomas Vyzmazal. The video below shows that his implementation of Quake is functional and takes advantage of some of the Apple watch’s properties, such as the gyroscope. Even more impressive: the game runs at 60 frames per second. Unfortunately, Quake for Apple Watch won’t be available on the App Store due to game licensing issues. However, you can build it if you have access to a Mac and Xcode. Vyzmazal explains how on his GitHub project repository.
