Microsoft started beta testing new Windows 11 file explorer tabs. The tabs’ functionality is now set up for testers in the Windows Insider Beta channel, and it looks close to a general public release. Microsoft explained that the new File Explorer isn’t yet accessible to all testers, and that they are waiting for feedback on the changes before making it available to everyone. The testers first saw this file browser redesign a few months ago, but Microsoft has been intermittently trying out a tabbed version of a file browser for years. It briefly found its way in a 2018 Windows 10 build, but the feature was dropped. When the 22H2 update is ready for release on all Windows 11 PCs, it could include other unannounced changes, new built-in application versions (such as Notepad and Media Player), and Windows subsystem updates to run Linux or Android applications.
