Microsoft unveiled the 4th generation of its Surface Laptop. The design is identical to the previous generation with two touchscreen models (13.5 and 15 inches). Several color options are available, including a new “Ice Blue” finish. The device features the familiar glass trackpad and backlit keyboard. Unfortunately, the camera hasn’t changed and is still limited to 720p. RAM and SSD storage range from 8 to 32 GB and from 256 GB to 1 TB respectively.

The breakthrough though is its performance. And the Surface Laptop 4 offers the choice between Intel or AMD processors. AMD-based models have variants of Ryzen 4000 processors, and not the latest and greatest Ryzen 5000. As for the Intel models, they feature 11th-gen Tiger Lake chips. Microsoft says the new chips will result in performance “up to 70 percent faster” than the Surface Laptop 3, with significantly improved multitasking capabilities. Microsoft also promises improved autonomy, especially in Ryzen models, with their much less energy-intensive processors. Prices start at US$ 1,000 for the 13.5-inch and US$ 1,300 for the 15-inch. The most expensive configuration is priced at US$ 2,400 for a 15-inch with an Intel Core i7-1185G7, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The Surface Laptop 4 is already available.
