Panasonic’s lineup of rugged laptops grew to include the Toughbook 40. This new laptop capitalizes on most of its predecessor’s hallmarks, such as durability and swappable components, but is also lighter and has a larger, 14-inch screen. Toughbooks are designed to withstand drops of up to 1.8 meters as well as outdoor use in all weather, including rain. Their modularity also makes them stand out. Eight components make the Toughbook easier to fix or upgrade: the battery, RAM, storage, keyboard, and four expansion areas, which can accommodate an optical drive, a fingerprint and barcode reader, I/O ports, additional batteries, or additional storage. At 1,200 nits, the laptop’s 1920×1080 touchscreen is bright enough to use in a sunny room or outdoors. It contains an Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor with an integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU. The laptop can be configured with up to 2TB of storage and up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. Targeting large companies and the public sector, the Toughbook 40 starts at USD 4,900 and will be available at the end of the Spring.
