Pac-Man celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, and to commemorate the occasion, Cook and Becker is releasing an incredible-looking history book later this year. Lavishly illustrated, the 300-page book relates the origins of the game through the artists, designers, developers and other creative teams that brought Pac-Man to life, and showcases the game’s influence on pop culture. While there’s a standard hardcover version of the book for $39, which is called Pac-Man: Birth of an Icon, you can also buy a $99 special edition that comes with an ingenious Pac-Man-shaped slipcase and a yellow vinyl pressing of the single “Pac-Man Fever”, the Buckner and Garcia song from 1981. However, the collector’s edition is limited to 2,000 copies, so if you want one, you’d better preorder. The book is described as “the first-ever official history book” for the iconic video games series, and it’s written by Arjan Terpstra and Tim Lapetino, in close collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment. Its release is expected at the end of July.
