Apple says that iOS 16, its next major annual iPhone operating system update, will launch on September 12 for supported devices. Announced in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2022 and offered as a public beta version in July, it features a bunch of improvements, including a total redesign of the lock screen, which is more customizable than before. Users can now customize several interchangeable lock screens with animated wallpapers and interactive widgets. A new function, “Live Activities”, lets you see breaking news as they’re happening, such as sports or current events, directly on the lock screen. Built-in apps such as Messages also get new features, which can now edit or delete a sent message. Unlike in previous years, the iPadOS 16 won’t come out at the same time. The new operating system for tablets is expected in October, at the same time as the new iPad models.
